A speed-regulated drive system made up of an AC motor and its corresponding controller constitutes a pure electric vehicle motor. The term "AC motor" refers to the AC asynchronous traction motor, which rotates the rotor using a revolving magnetic field. The driving circuit is likewise simple and dependable, and the construction has strong dependability and high efficiency. Permanent magnet motors are more expensive than rare earth permanent magnet motors; some of the total costs are double those of AC asynchronous motors. The price will increase, making electric vehicles extremely uneconomical and hindering the development of electric vehicles, particularly after electric vehicles become popular and rare earth minerals are in short supply.Popularization: Rare earth permanent magnet motors typically use water cooling, which complicates the power structure and raises the cost. They also have complex driving circuits, poor reliability, and difficult heat dissipation, which lowers their actual efficiency compared to AC asynchronous motors. The benefits of AC motors, on the other hand, are rather clear.

Troubleshooting

 

① Evaluation of the speed control handle's (the accelerator pedal's) damage:

While turning the handlebar (accelerator pedal), the signal voltage should shift from low to high within a specific range. The source voltage of the handlebar (accelerator pedal) is normal. The handlebar (accelerator pedal) is broken or the handlebar (accelerator pedal) line is short-circuited if the voltage does not vary and is less than 1V. Check other components whether the handlebar (accelerator pedal) is normal and the voltage is more than 1V and the change is normal.

 

② Vehicle damage assessment:

Turn the motor gently by hand while detecting each individual motor encoder signal line. Each phase's voltage should range within a particular range. The motor encoder in an electric car has to be changed if the voltage does not vary, indicating that it is broken. If the power supply and voltage transformation of each phase are both normal, the controller is broken and has to be replaced.

 

③ Judgement of controller damage:

Using a multimeter, verify the input terminal voltage of the controller power supply; it should be higher than the rated voltage (the battery is completely charged); if not, check the input line. Connect the red and black handlebar wires to the controller's power supply to check the voltage. If there is no voltage, unplug the handlebar socket and see if the voltage recovers. If not, the motor encoder may have been short-circuited. If there is still no voltage, the controller is faulty, and it needs to be replaced.

 

④ Judgment of comprehensive situation:

First, check to see whether the electric car motor encoder and the speed control handle (accelerator pedal) are shorted. In general, moisture and rain are more likely to result in a short-circuit of the connection. Thus, pay attention to the handle (accelerator pedal) connector's waterproofing. Replace the controller if it is damaged. Check to see whether the signal wire between the handlebar (accelerator pedal) and the motor encoder is shorted before installing the new controller. Otherwise, the new controller will continue to suffer damage.
