Fire hazard of motor

Feb 15, 2023|

The specific fire causes of the motor are as follows:

1. Overload

It will cause the winding current to increase and the temperature of winding and iron core to rise, which may cause fire in serious cases.

2. Open-phase operation

Although the motor can still operate, the winding current will increase so that the motor will be burnt and cause fire.

3. Poor contact

It will cause excessive contact resistance and generate heat or electric arc, which may ignite combustible substances in the motor and cause fire in serious cases.

4. Insulation damage

The interphase and inter-turn short circuit is formed, thus causing fire.

5. Mechanical friction

When the bearing is damaged, it may cause the stator and rotor friction or the motor shaft to be jammed, resulting in high temperature or short circuit of the winding and causing fire.

6. Improper selection

7. Excessive iron core consumption

It will cause excessive eddy current loss, lead to core heating and winding overload, and even cause fire in serious cases.

8. Poor grounding

When the motor winding pair is short-circuited, if the grounding is poor, the motor shell will be electrified, which can cause personal electric shock accident on the one hand, and cause the shell to heat up on the other hand, and in serious cases, ignite the surrounding combustibles and cause fire.
